Northwest Justice Project (NJP)

This is Washington states publicly funded legal aid program.  Every year NJP provides critical civil legal assistance and representation to thousands of low-income people in cases affecting basic human needs such as family safety and security, housing preservation, protection of income, access to health care, education and other basic needs.  The NJP’s mission is to provide high quality legal advocacy that promotes the long-term well-being of low-income individuals, families, and communities. This is achieved by providingcombination of legal advice and representation, community partnerships, and education to clients 

CLEAR 

NJP operates a toll-free intake and referral hotline called CLEAR (Coordinated Legal Education Advice and Referral). CLEAR serves as the statewide, centralized point of access for clients seeking free legal help, including advice, education, limited legal services, self-help materials and, where available, referrals for further representation. NJP attorneys in offices around the state provide assistance and direct representation in high priority, complex cases, including cases that address barriers to persons seeking access to our justice system, and also engage in community education efforts.  

Individuals can complete an online application for cases involving loss of housing other than foreclosure or government benefits related issues or (most problems in these categories),  The application will be reviewed and if eligble for services, they will offer to call you between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM or 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

For other legal issues, potential clients can still use the online application to begin the intake process, but you will have to call the CLEAR Hotline to finish the process (they will not call you). The hotline operates on weekdays from 9:15 am -12:15 pm. For the application and a short video describing the process, click on the below link.

CLEAR*Sr

(Coordinated Legal Education Advice and Referral for *Seniors)

It is a statewide toll-free hotline for people ages 60 and older to get free legal help with many civil (Non-criminal) legal problems: Some examples include consumer, senior abuse or exploitation, welfare, SSI, aid, Medicare, Medic housing. Callers may  get a busy signal or a message stating that circuits are busy. If this happens, call again later.  The screener will verify that you are eligible for services and that you have a problem they handle. They will ask you for information about the person, business or agency with whom you are having the problem with. 

You can reach CLEAR*Sr by dialing, toll -free: 1 -888 -387 -7111 CLEAR*Sr phone lines are open from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday. Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired persons can call CLEAR *Sr using the relay service of your choice. CLEAR*Sr will conference in interpreters when needed at no cost to callers.
